The Great Pyrenees, also known as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, is a very large animal with a solid muscular body. The dogs are generally solid white, or white with patches of tan, wolf-gray or pale yellow.

The Great Pyrenees originated in the Pyrenees Mountains of Europe which form the border between France and Spain. They were developed by the Basque people to protect their flocks from predation by bears and wolves. The dogs have been used for this purpose for over a thousand years. Even today, Pyrenees are often used to guard sheep and other livestock. This makes for a wonderful guard dog for your family as well. They are calm and would never attack unless provoked. However, they can be intimidating!

They are a gentle animal, making them popular with children. They also typically get along with other pets, such as cats.
